Why Tuesdays?

Giving Tuesday is a nationally recognized day of giving, that started as a grass roots campaign eight years ago at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season. A time when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Since 2012, people from all over the world have given nearly $2 Billion to causes on Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year.

As a philanthropic endeavor of Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding, and his daughter Clover, CNY Tuesdays will work to bring this spirit of giving to every Tuesday in Central New York.

How to Nominate and Vote

Learn more about our process to select Grant Recipients

How are organizations nominated?

CNY Tuesdays is intended to be a grant program driven by the community.  Central New York residents are asked to go to nominate a deserving non-profit organization every month at cnytuesdays.com.  Share a few lines of the story of impact you have seen or experienced so that others can see how organizations are doing good work all around us and transforming our communities daily.

How are organizations selected?

Each month an independent committee will narrow nominations down to 10 finalists.  Central New York residents are then asked to go to cnytuesdays.com engage with the stories shared by voting for those they find most compelling, for a five day period, the last few days of each month.  The non-profit organizations receiving the most votes will be recognized in the following month and receive a $2,000 grant from Upstate Shredding owner, Adam Weitsman, and his daughter Clover. *

*The number of organizations selected for a grant by popular vote will depend on the number of Tuesdays in the following month. Depending on the month, selected organizations will vary from four to five.

How are organizations recognized?

Each Tuesday, Michael Benny will feature a different grant recipient on NBC News at 7pm, sharing their story with Central New York.  CNY Tuesdays will share more of the organizations story throughout the week on CNY Tuesdays social media pages.
